Wilshire Park teachers have identified essential state benchmarks in the areas of reading, writing, and math, as well as specialists. We expect the majority of students to be proficient by year's end on these benchmarks. These benchmarks can now be viewed by families on Skyward, under the Grading tile. As teachers begin to assess students on identified benchmarks, you may see scores associated with them.
| Overall Benchmark Scores Scale | Panda Pride (Soft Skills) Scores Scale |
|
3+ = Above Proficiency 3 = Proficient 2 = Partially Proficient 1 = Not Demonstrating Proficiency |
S+ = Area of Strength S = Satisfactory S- = Area for Growth |
Please keep in mind that these scores may change during the course of the semester as students may be assessed multiple times on a standard. For example, if a kindergarten standard is to identify numbers 0-31, they may get a score of 1 (Not Demonstrating Proficiency) in February, but that may change to a 3 (Proficient) by mid-May as they continue to work on that skill. You will see the most recent scores for your student based on the most recent assessment of the benchmark. That said, if you see your student is not yet proficient in a benchmark when you view it, you may want to work with your child on that skill at home.
Some teachers, mainly in the upper grades, may decide to provide additional information to you by attaching specific assessments to benchmarks in their gradebooks that you will be able to see. This can provide you with even more information on how your child is progressing towards proficiency on a benchmark.
Students will receive a semester 2 report card at the end of the school year which will provide a score for each benchmark. Students will also receive Panda Pride scores, which will reflect soft skills, such as being respectful, responsible, and ready to learn.
Some things to note:
- At this time, science and social studies are not assessed as separate classes. Benchmarks associated with these subjects are still covered in the classroom setting and can be embedded into the other subjects.
- Kindergarten and first graders have Art and STEM for half the year, so if students had these classes during semester 1, they will not show up this school year, since we are beginning our implementation during semester 2 of this school year.
- At the end of the school year, families will be able to access final semester 2 report cards in Skyward on the Portfolio tile on your Skyward home screen. Report cards will not be mailed out to families, since they will now be accessible online. More information will be provided regarding how to access final report cards towards the end of the school year.
